Activate is a mentoring programme dedicated to supporting under-represented groups at Imperial. It seeks to:
- improve experiences
- increase retention
- develop a peer community
- support career development
- create a deeper sense of belonging.
Activate aims to match mentees with mentors who have insight and understanding of the educational experience of under-represented groups of students, the challenges they face within education and navigating Imperial life. All Activate mentors take part in a tailored training programme to support effective mentoring partnerships. Activate mentees are also supported through dedicated training, cohort activities and both mentors and mentees are invited to attend an end of year celebration each year.
Activate currently has two streams, mentoring to support recipients of Imperial’s Scholarships for Black heritage students and Minority Ethnic PhD students, and recipients of Imperial’s Master’s Scholarships to support disabled students and disabled PhD students.
